Articles claim that sugar causes everything from heart disease to diabetes. But, it is important to remember that sugar is a simple carbohydrate that provides energy. Sugar is safe, but when it is added to foods like candy, soda, and other sweets, it supplies "empty calories" with basically no nutrients. Sugar can also contribute to tooth decay, so MODERATION is important. The fact is that there is no scientific evidence that supports the claim that fasting will "cleanse the body". During the initial phase of fasting, a loss of essential fluids and minerals will occur (and can result in dehydration). Following this, one will lose some body fat, lean body mass (especially muscle), and additional minerals. A low calorie intake or fasting will cause the body to adjust to this deprivation of energy by a decrease in the body's basal metabolic rate(BMR). The body will automatically start to decrease the amount of calories it burns, making weight gain more rapid when eating patterns return to normal. The fact is there is no scientific evidence that consumption of any food leads to acne. Hormonal secretions from stress worsen acne, rather than a high-fat diet. Although it is a fallacy that "greasy foods lead to greasy skin", it is still important to make low-fat choices for optimal health.
