REGISTRATION
Welcome to Reedley College online orientation. This
orientation is part of the matriculation process
designed to bring you into a contract-like partnership
with Reedley College. This partnership will assist you in
the completion of your educational goal.
The
Matriculation process at Reedley College contains these
important components:
Application
for Admission
is
the process of;
- Submitting
an application to the Admissions and Records office,
either by paper and pencil or using the
"online" version.
- Both
versions require
your signature.
Orientation
is designed to inform you of:
- Reedley
College's policies and procedures.
- Support
services available to students.
- Rights
and responsibilities ? yours and the College?s.
Assessment is an evaluation process that:
- Is
based on the information you provide to us by you, the
student, on the
General
Assessment Test.
- Is
designed to help determine your strengths and
weaknesses in Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills,
and Math.
- Will
help you and your counselor determine the most
appropriate classes to begin with.
- You
cannot FAIL the assessment test. You may
only take the test twice, but must
have a counselor referral for a second attempt.
Counseling
will help you:
- Plan
your schedule each semester.
- Find
information specifically applicable to your educational goal.
- Plan
a long-term schedule (SEP) to ensure completion of your goal
in a timely manner.
-
Answer
any questions or help you with any problems that arise
while you are attending Reedley College.
Student
Educational Plan

a plan detailing the coursework that is required
to meet Reedley College certificate, graduation, or
transfer
requirements.
- Will
be completed with you by a Reedley College counselor. It will note the
classes you have completed and the classes you still
need to take.
- Should
include courses you have taken at other schools.
To speed up the process of completing your SEP, bring your own copy of High School transcripts or other college/university
transcripts with you when you visit a counselor.
Please note: some
students are exempt from portions of, or all of the
matriculation process. For a complete description of the
matriculation process, or to view the Matriculation

checklist.
Reedley
College DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES
Reedley
College provides coursework that leads to the completion
of an associates degree, as well as certificates in
a variety of areas. There are two associates degrees
available:
- The
Associate of Arts degree -- a broad based
degree, designed for students who are planning to
continue their education beyond the associate's
level.
- The
Associate of Science degree -- considered a
terminal degree. It is designed for students who plan
to seek immediate employment upon the completion of
their degree. You can transfer to a four-year school
with an Associate of Science degree, but because the
degree is more specific and detailed you may end up
with courses not required for transfer.
- The
Certificate of Achievement and Certificate
of Completion are vocational in nature and are
offered in such areas as Agriculture, Art, Automotive
Technology, Aviation, Business, Child Development,
Criminal Justice, and Manufacturing Technology, to
name a few.
- Please see the Reedley College
Catalog for information about specific program requirements.
Reedley College Graduation Requirements
- Completion
of 60
semester units, including general education and major
requirements, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
-
Completion
of at least 12 of the 60 units from Reedley College.
For a listing of all of
the degree and certificate programs available and a
complete description of their requirements, please see the
catalog,
the best single source of information
pertaining to Reedley College.
Are you planning to transfer to a four-year college?
- If
you plan to transfer to a public four year university
in California, you will want to work towards
completion of the general education patterns that have
been articulated between the California community
colleges and the University of California (UC) and
California State University (CSU) systems. Both of
these plans are described in detail in the catalog.
- UC's
require completion of the Intersegmental General
Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC).
- CSU's
accept either the IGETC or the
CSU General Education list.
-
For other
schools such as Fresno Pacific University, etc., please contact a counselor.
- Many
universities want transfer students to complete
courses in their major while at a community college.
Contact a counselor for information on major
preparation.
-
The current minimum number of units needed to transfer
to a 4-year college or university as an upper division
transfer student is 60.
Check with a counselor or the transfer center to make
sure this requirement has not changed since you
started your college career.
It is important to work
with a counselor on transfer issues, they can be
confusing. If you are planning to transfer, please check
out our
Transfer
Center page.
CLASS SELECTION
When choosing your classes, keep these factors in mind:
- Full-time
is 12 semester units minimum.
- STUDENTS
are required to be aware of PREREQUISITES to
the class they are interested in taking. A
prerequisite is something the student MUST
complete BEFORE registering for the
class. See the Reedley College Catalog for more
detailed information.
- Students
may challenge a prerequisite under certain
conditions. See a counselor for details.
- Many
students think that taking an online class will be
easier because they do not have to attend class.
Although you do not physically attend class, the
participation hours required will be same as those of an
on-site class.
- In
addition to the time you spend logged onto the
computer, actively participating in class, you should
plan for an additional 1-2 hours of study time for
every unit you are enrolled in.
- Look
at other activities and commitments you have, i.e.
family and work, to help you determine how much time
you can devote to school.
- WHEN
IN DOUBT, OR HAVING PROBLEMS WITH CLASS
SELECTION...SEE A COUNSELOR!
CLASS SCHEDULE
The schedule contains information on each course offered at
Reedley College. Please refer to the class
schedule and study the example of what a class
description contains. Some things to be looking for:
- The
Schedule Number, or Code, is the 5-digit number that
you will need to identify classes you want to enroll
in.
- The
class
schedule will indicate, by course number and
letter designation, what requirements a course will
meet (this information is also indicated in the
catalog.)
There are several different classifications:
- Transfer
level courses. Schedule also indicates which
California University system it will transfer to. Some
of these courses will transfer as general education
classes, some as major preparation, and some as
electives. You will need to look at each school to
determine where the classes will be counted.
- Associate
degree courses. These courses apply to an associate?s
degree at Reedley College, but do not transfer to a
four year college.
- Preparatory courses. These courses do not transfer to a four year
school or apply to an associates degree, but may be
necessary to meet minimum proficiency requirement.
DROPPING COURSES
Dropping courses that you no longer want to be enrolled in
at Reedley College is the student's
responsibility. Some instructors may drop
students, but DO NOT count on it. If you do not drop a
class, and the instructor does not drop you, you will
receive a letter grade of "F". There are several different drop dates (for a
full length semester) that
you need to be aware of:
- The
10% drop date (or end of second week) -- is the last day that you can drop a
class and still receive a full refund. This class will
not be listed on your transcripts or count in your
GPA.
- The
20% drop date (or end of third week) -- if you drop a course by this date, the
course will not become part of your permanent record.
It will not be listed on your transcript or be
included in your GPA. Basically, it will be as though
you never enrolled in the class.
- The
50% drop date (or end of ninth week) -- if you drop by
this drop date,
you will receive a Withdrawal, also known as a
"W." The "W" will be indicated on
your transcripts, but it will not be included in the
computation of your GPA.
The "Refund to Students" section of the RC
catalog has specific information pertaining to drop
dates and refunds.
To find out the specific drop date for your class, please contact a
counselor, the Admissions and Records Office, or consult
the class schedule for your semester.
PROBATION
(It
is the student's responsibility to be aware of their own
probation status. The school may attempt to contact
you regarding probation, but ultimately the student is
responsible for monitoring their academic success!)
- If
you have attempted at least 12 semester units and
received a withdrawal (W), a no credit (N/C), or an
incomplete (I), on 50% or more of your classes, you
will be placed on
progress
(P)
probation. You must complete at least 51%
of what you signed up for to NOT be on progress
probation.
- If
you have attempted at least 12 semester units and
received less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA, you will be
placed on academic (A) probation.
-
The first semester on
probation is A1 (or P1), the second semester is A2 (or
P2), with the third semester below the minimum
requirements resulting in a status of AD (or PD),
academic or progress dismissal. This is where you
may be required to sit out one complete semester before
being allowed to re-enroll in school.
-
Please refer to the
probation section in the current Reedley College
Catalog for complete probation information.
If you are placed on
probation, you must see a counselor or attend a probation
workshop before you
can register for the next semester.
